Meet Shane Hazel: The Marine Vet That's Challenging the 7th District Incumbent
September 20, 2017
Former combat Marine Shane Hazel is seeking to unseat 4-term Incumbent Robert Woodall from his 7th District Congressional seat. It will be the first time the Republican Congressman has faced a primary opponent since 2012. Hazel is now one of six contenders aiming to replace Congressman Woodall in 2018. Earlier this month Hazel filed the necessary FEC paper, making his candidacy official.
Shane grew up in Lawrenceville, attended Brookwood Highschool, and graduated from UGA with a BA in International Affairs. He lives in Cumming with his wife Meredith, and their three children; Jackson 6, Henry 4 & Sawyer 3. Shane joined the Marine Corps days after 9/11 where he graduated 1st in his class from Marine Boot Camp, Marine Combat Training, and Military Occupational School. While serving as point-man in Force Reconnaissance he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor for his actions in the Battle of Fallujah in November of 2004. Now Shane travels the world educating and equipping members of AFSOC, NSW, MARSOC, USASOC, and JSOC along with his beloved Marines on the application of emerging technologies.
"The Oath I swore to uphold the Constitution means more now than it ever has,” said Shane. “Democrats and establishment Republicans have usurped the constraints of the Constitution and arbitrarily grown their power at the expense of all Americans and their inalienable rights, turning a blind eye to the values and principles you and I share. With a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, I pledge to you my life, my fortune, and my sacred Honor. I believe that leadership matters, and I’m excited to advocate for the principles and values that families, businesses and individuals of all walks of life hold dear, here in Forsyth and Gwinnett counties.”
