Cruz Creates Petition: Build the Wall, Make El Chapo pay for It!
April 26, 2017
In a statement Wednesday morning, Sen. Ted Cruz encouraged his supporters to sign a petition in support his new proposal for funding President Trump's border wall.
The proposal calls for the use of $14 billion seized from Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to be used to fund the building for the President’s border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
In the message Cruz wrote:
"The time is now to build the wall on our southern border and we should make El Chapo pay for it.
Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border.
Ensuring the safety and security of Texans is one of my top priorities as Senator. That said, we must also be mindful of the cost impact on the federal budget. By leveraging the criminally forfeited assets of El Chapo and his ilk, we can offset the wall’s cost and make meaningful progress toward achieving President Trump’s stated border security objectives."
