Westmoreland Speaks Candidly About Retirement And Possible Political Future

Former Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA-3) sat down recently with the hosts of Georgia Public Broadcasting’s “Political Rewind” to reflect on his time in Congress and discuss what the future might hold for him politically.

In regards to his decision to not seek reelection in 2016, the retired congressman said he felt that elected officials were never meant to serve lifelong terms in a single office. “I don’t think our government was ever intended for someone to be up there for 50 years,” remarked Westmoreland.

When asked if he had any interest in making a bid for Governor in 2018, Westmoreland made it clear that he was in no hurry to make that decision. He responded to the show’s hosts, “I’m not ready to make that decision yet. It’s about 20 months until the election”.

Concluding his thoughts on the matter, the 67-year-old former congressman simply stated, “I’m happy”.
